“A hard-hitting, visceral journey to purgatory and back” Dancing Times
There Is Hope is the new hard-hitting, contemporary dance work by Rosie Kay Dance Company, exploring ancient ritual and contemporary religion, including the Seven Deadly Sins. Inspired by the city she lives in, choreographer Rosie Kay wants to work with young people and communities to take a picture of modern ideas of morality, hope and faith in a changing and unstable world.
There Is Hope begins in the real world, but rapidly descends into hell, then purgatory before finally reaching a state of heaven by the end – interwoven with elements of Kay’s renowned black comedy, occasional nudity and athletic performances. Both challenging and thought-provoking, this new piece – featuring five dancers and three musicians – ultimately offers up a message of hope and redemption.
