CHES 2012-13 Seminar Series – (Third) mission creep?

Dr Tim Vorley

(Third) mission creep? This is the ninth seminar in the 2012/13 series. The CHES seminars provide a forum for debate and analysis of issues affecting policy, practice and research in higher education, supporting the exchange of views and experiences across higher education. Seminars are normally held at 17:30 on the first Tuesday of the month at the Institute of Education.

Tim Vorley will present about the expansive nature of what was once referred to as the ‘third mission’ of universities. In highlighting the increasingly numerous social, economic and political imperatives demanded of universities, the presentation makes reference to the recent ESRC ‘New Institutional Imperatives’ seminar series led with Fumi Kitagawa. The presentation reflects on some of the organisational challenges facing contemporary universities, and considers how both the internal and external dynamics and drivers are shaping this creeping third mission.
