The Freedom of Information Act provides public access to information held by public authorities. Public authorities are obliged to publish certain information about their activities; and members of the public are entitled to request information from public authorities. Together with the launch of a new book “10 years of FOI: freedom fighting or lazy journalism?” edited by City University journalism academic Tom Felle, and former BBC producer John Mair, a panel of experts will discuss if the legislation has freed up reporters to conduct campaigning investigations in the public interest, or is it just an excuse for lazy journalism?
