This event coincides with the launch of Celebrating Success, an evaluation of the work of Cleanbreak undertaken by research staff at RCSSD funded by Creative Works London. It brings together academics from the fields of criminology, psychology and applied theatre. The event features research papers focusing on women who have experience of the criminal justice system and arts projects.

Marie Hutton is a criminologist and currently a post-doctoral research fellow on the ESRC funded research project ‘Breaking the Cycle: Prison Visitation and Recidivism in the UK’ project at the University of Birmingham. This three year interdisciplinary project will provide a new perspective on prison visitation and its relationship to the highly topical issue of recidivism.

Laura Caulfield is the head of research and consultancy and subject leader for Psychology in the School of Society at Bath Spa University. She is the principal investigator on the ESRC Enrichment activities? Creativity and Spirituality in criminal system systems which began in Nov 2012 and the author of several publications, including both Criminological Research for Beginners (2014) and Forensic Psychology (2014).

Caoimhe McAvinchey is a senior lecturer in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, and her research is in the area of applied and social theatre with a focus on both intergenerational arts practices and prison theatre. Her publications include Performance and Community (2013) and Theatre & Prisons (2011).
