Synopsis

Perhaps the least performed of Chekhov’s plays, Ivanov is the fierce and funny portrait of a man whose life is plummeting fast into domestic and philosophical chaos. By turns despairing, passionate and very funny – it offers insight into a young playwright, exhilaratingly different from the one we think we know.

“There are so many cogs in us, so many wheels, so many valves that we judge each other at our own peril. I don’t understand you. You don’t understand me. And least of all do we understand ourselves.” – Ivanov
