Call for Papers/Art Projects for Gender Generation: The creative process in Art & Design

London South Bank University

EXTENDED DEADLINE – Now 8TH JULY

London South Bank University and The Royal College of Art invite you to submit abstracts and presentations of art projects to Gender Generation.  We are looking for submissions that deal with one or more of the following questions:

  • How does the concept of the ‘maternal’ reflect on gender in the process of thecreative practice?
  • Are there new ways of teaching within art schools that enable a non-binary model of creative practice to be developed?
  • How does the concept of gender and the way it is generated affect artists, designers and their practices?
  • Can the concepts of the gender, sexuality and pedagogy influence the agendas of art institutions?

The papers/proposals should be delivered in English and be 15 minutes in length. Possible topics can include but are not restricted to the above questions(up to 250 words + max 3 images of practice). Performance, visual art, text and practice based works on a broad range of approaches t and related topicsare welcome.

 Key speakers already confirmed are Carol Mavor, Andrea Liss and Lenka Clayton.

Discussants: Griselda Pollock, Claire Pajaczkowska and Valerie Walkerdine

Selected artworks will be on show in the Dyson Gallery for the duration of the conference.

Abstracts and proposals are to be submitted no later than Friday, 8th July 2016, using the following email: gendergeneration@rca.ac.uk . Proposers will be informed by Friday 22nd July 2016 whether their proposal has been accepted.
