As part of London Design Festival, London College of Communication invites the public to an engaging series of free design events.
Visitors can explore the visual data-scape of London’s SE1 postcode, celebrate iconic sci-fi film set design, learn how service design can shape the future, enjoy graphic design by Ivan Chermayeff, reflect on design ideas for the greater good and take part in makers’ workshops. Insights from LCC’s ongoing design research will also be showcased.
LCC is part of the Better Bankside District of London Design Festival.

SE1 Data Stories (14 September – 14 October)
With London College of Communication at the heart of what is a major regeneration of the SE1 postcode, SE1 Data stories visualises the changing face of the area over the last 100 years and reveals the human stories behind the data.
The Joy of Sets x The Kubrick Archive (14 September – 14 October)
Science fiction meets design fiction in this set design exhibition event, which reimagines an iconic scene from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey using material from UAL’s Stanley Kubrick Archive, housed at LCC. An active workshop, film seminar and space walk accompany the exhibition.
Design Research (14 September – 14 October)
Celebrating the diversity and inventiveness of design research at LCC, this exhibition showcases the research interests and outputs of over 60 members of LCC staff. See things differently through the eyes of experts across the expanded field of visual communication, digital cultures, historical and cultural contexts and design for services and enterprise.
Ivan Chermayeff: Cut and Paste (5 – 30 September)
Ivan Chermayeff, co-founder of one of America’s leading graphic design companies, has created brand identities for global corporations. This colourful and playful exhibition of posters, accompanied by a talk event with Chermayeff himself, focuses on his more personal practice and passion for design and typography.
Service Design Futures (16 September, 4-8pm)
Service Design Futures showcases the game-changing work that service designers are doing across London. Guests are invited to participate in a line-up of interactive activities, discussions and workshops throughout the evening.
Design. What is it good for? (14 September – 14 October)
Exploring issues such as social responsibility, ethics and personal accountability, emerging creatives from across the world have questioned ‘Design. What is it good for?’ in this poster design and manifesto exhibition.
Elephant Press (14 September – 14 October)
A show of prints by 20 recent graduates, alumni and Saturday Print Club members who have used the College’s extensive print facilities to develop their work including examples of etching, solar plate, relief, serigraph and screenprint.
Makers’ Workshops (17 – 24 September)
LCC students, alumni and local creatives will run a series of free maker workshops, open to all, as part of LDF at LCC. Further information and booking details will be available soon.
