Fully Funded PhD Scholarships in Media and Arts Technology

MAT

The Media and Arts Technology PhD Programme is an innovative 4 year programme bridging the UK Academic Community and the UK’s premier digital and creative sector technology institutions.

For September 2018 intake there are a number of fully-funded scholarships available for UK residents to apply for (resident in the UK for at least the last three years) and a small number of scholarships for EU/International students to apply for. The stipend last year was £16,553 per annum tax free, and all fees for the programme are paid for.

 

PHD PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme involves six taught modules in the first two semesters, Year 1 which starts in September 2018, then a six-month placement project with companies such as BBC, BT, Cinimod, United Visual Artists, Inition. The core taught modules include:

  • Interactive Digital Multimedia Techniques: including Max MSP, Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming;
  • Sound Recording and Production Techniques: audio piece developed in Logic software;
  • Digital Arts documentary: a documentary made with expert production advice and edited in Apple’s Final Cut Pro;
  • Research Methods: methods and approaches to undertaking academic research;
  • Two specialist modules chosen from within EECS (see database of modules) e.g. Java programming, C++, or Design for Human Interaction.

In Years 2 and 3 you will take further specialist option modules (typically three) to support your research. In Year 2 you finalise your PhD topic, research group, supervision team and your main research project starts. The main research groups contributing to the programme are:
