COMMISSION OVERVIEW:
From micro-celebrities to the “Instafamous”, modders to shoutcasters, today, the worlds of play, work, entertainment, seem to be converging, but how is this impacting on the perception of the self and the role of the worker?

Playbour– Work, Pleasure, Survival, is dedicated to the study of the worker as they are asked to draw on internal resources and self-made networks to develop new avenues of work, pleasure and survival.

Through a programme of a lab, independent publication, exhibition, and series of on and offline events, Playbour – Work, Pleasure, Survival, is a platform for community-led art and research, bringing leading artists, designers, scholars, activists and people from local communities together through new experiments in artistic co-research and production. The project aims to engage in public forms of art + research to collectively think about how we value the convergence of work, play and well-being, and the contours of work and play itself.

We are looking for individuals interested in exploring the rise of celebrity, automation, marketing and fandom taking place on social media platforms. What is happening in the worlds of micro-celebrities and influencers? How are these emergent career paths involved in a process of retailing their personal lives? What is the impact on the arts and on artists?

As part of the commission selected artists will participate in a dynamic three-day arts, science and research lab held 25-27 May at Furtherfield Commons, Finsbury Park, as well as receive a special programme of 1:1 mentoring opportunities with a selection of international artists, activists, and researchers also taking place in May. The outcome will be two online and social-media commissions that involves taking-over Furtherfield’s social media channels throughout June 2018. Playbour– Work, Pleasure, Survival, is a project for all experiences and backgrounds. We offer a dynamic, and thought-provoking experience for discussion, understanding, and play, with a friendly attitude. We seek to promote the diversity of opinions in society and celebrate people’s self learning in the ways they wish to participate.

Join us as we embark on an intrepid journey to chart the instruments, agents and infrastructures of work, play and well-being online.
