Guildhall School and Imperial College London share the findings of a joint nine-year research project on Improvisational State of Mind and its impact on communication, well-being and emotional engagement.
The session includes tracking and projecting the brain activity of a musician and listener during improvisatory and non-improvisatory performances.
This will be the first time the Lempel-Ziv complexity metric – which measures and indicates the level of consciousness and engagement in the brain at any given time – is measured in real time through a public artistic performance.
This will be followed by short lectures (Henrik Jensen, Imperial College; Professor John Sloboda & David Dolan, Guildhall School) presenting the Guildhall School-Imperial College joint research project followed by a conversation with the audience and a wine & finger food reception.
